Arup is a global consultancy with advisory and technical expertise across more than 150 disciplines. We guide, plan and design the future of the built environment. Globally, each year we recruit hundreds of graduates to help us see things differently and solve the most complex challenges facing our clients, climate and communities.

Arup has made sustainability and the transition to net zero a priority in its operations and project work.  Our team of civil engineers contribute to the firm's work on modelling, co-ordination, integration and design for a broad range of energywater, maritime and broader infrastructure projects.

The Opportunity

On this 12-week Summer Internship you'll work alongside skilled professionals and from day one you will be working on real life meaningful projects - adding add value to clients, while exploring challenges with curiosity and creativity.

You'll learn from others and begin creating your professional network ready for when you graduate. There are regular learning sessions with our leadership team, opportunities for site visits to local projects and all kinds of social events that will support your learning and development.

Our aim is to welcome as many students back into our other programmes be that another internship or potential graduate position. This placement is the stepping-stone to your future.

Our Civil Engineers can find themselves working in partnership with our experts in buildings, bridges, tunnels, geotechnics, water, river and coastal engineering, environmental consulting and transport planning. Energy, collaboration, and effective communication is fundamental to bring these elements together as our Civil Engineering teams are often at the core of these disciplines acting as integrators or facilitators. Our teams also work closely with many external bodies to deliver projects from clients and architects to statutory approval organisations.

You'll help us to deliver effective and professional services for a range of varied and high-profile clients. This year's and previous interns have worked on projects for the Environment Agency/ Natural Resources Wales, Network Rail/TRU, Site Developers, and Sellafield gaining great experience of engineering in the real world. While you'll have a great deal of responsibility from day one, we'll give you the chance to take on more as you progress and broaden your skills. We will also try to ensure that you get varied work throughout your year with us to help you think about which aspect of civil engineering you would like to follow.
