Arup is an independent firm of designers, planners, engineers, consultants and technical specialists offering a broad range of professional services. Through our work, we make a positive difference in the world.

Our Engineers apply their specialist skills to buildings projects across the globe. We offer our clients a broad spectrum of expertise and consulting services in, but not limited to, the following types of developments:

  • Universities, Colleges and Schools
  • Hospitals and healthcare buildings
  • Government buildings
  • Laboratories and research facilities
  • Transport projects, including airports and rail stations
  • Sports facilities and stadia
  • Museums and Art Galleries
  • Large-scale industrial, manufacturing and datacentre facilities
  • Mixed-use commercial developments

As one of the world's leading multidisciplinary building design consultancies, we offer clients the innovation and technical know-how to continually deliver excellent building projects.

What is the role?
We are currently recruiting for Environmental Services Engineering (ESE) Summer Placement Students to join our Buildings teams in London.

ESE, also referred to as Public Health engineering, relates to the plumbing elements of building services engineering. This covers the drainage (rainwater and wastewater), water services, gas supplies, and fire protection systems of the building. This is an excellent opportunity for students that are enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the buildings sector and/or sustainable water and drainage supplies, to join a multi-disciplinary team this summer.

You will provide support to project teams in delivering an excellent design service to our clients, experiencing first-hand how we operate. This will include preparing designs in co-ordination with the team, using relevant software, and gaining a thorough understanding of the role of a building services engineer. Due to the multi-disciplinary nature of our design teams, you will have the opportunity to work alongside Architects, Building Services Engineers (mechanical, electrical, ESE/public health), Civil/Structural Engineers and Project Managers.

To find out more about public health engineering at Arup, have a look at our ESE (also referred to as public health engineering) internet page, which includes a short film explaining the role of public health engineering in a sustainable built environment (created by one of our ESE engineers).

About you

  • On track to achieve a 2:1 or above, as proven through the modules that you have completed to date
  • Demonstrate strong motivation and passion for a career in design of the built environment
  • Passionate about ways to make the built environment more sustainable
  • Ideally graduating in Summer 2022 or 2023

Shape your time with us
Our goal is to shape a better world. And to do that, we need to make Arup a great place to work for everyone. If we want to solve problems for people around the world, we must seek and attract the best people from the widest talent pool and create an environment that supports and includes them. We aim to encourage a culture where people can be themselves and be valued for their contribution. We therefore welcome applications from diverse candidates. This includes people with disabilities so please discuss any adjustments that you may require throughout the selection and assessment process with your recruitment contact.

At Arup, you'll be a welcomed member of the team with opportunities to participate in cultural and social events with the local community (e.g. as a STEM ambassador) or by joining one of our staff networks for women, culture or LGBT+ people.  As a firm with an increasingly agile workforce, we're open to flexible working arrangements where appropriate.

Stay safe online - Arup will never ask for payment or your bank details as part of our selection process.
