The Opportunity
On this 12-week Summer Internship you'll work alongside skilled professionals and from day one you will be working on real life meaningful projects - adding add value to clients, while exploring challenges with curiosity and creativity.
You'll learn from others and begin creating your professional network ready for when you graduate. There are regular learning sessions with our leadership team, opportunities for site visits to local projects and all kinds of social events that will support your learning and development.
Our aim is to welcome as many students back into our other programmes be that another internship or potential graduate position. This placement is the stepping-stone to your future.

We are recognised as top consultants in this field and are working for both public and private sector clients on some of the most important advisory and engineering projects in the UK today. This includes advice to central and local governments on decarbonisation strategies, managing innovation programmes for low carbon technologies, delivering design solutions for tomorrow's low carbon energy system, and providing sustainable investment advice.
Our Energy Advisory team in the Midlands provides strategic advice to our clients and actively drives the development and delivery of a range of projects across the energy sector, including high voltage transmission systems & resilience, offshore interconnectors, offshore wind, hydrogen and carbon capture, use and storage (CCUS). Our advice includes programme and project management, project delivery, procurement support
, and owner's engineering support. Our clients include some of the UK's biggest energy companies including National Grid, Uniper, ScottishPower Renewables, and SGN.
This is an excellent opportunity for a student that is passionate and keen to develop their knowledge in energy advisory to join our multi-disciplinary team for the summer of 2025.
You will work alongside team members to deliver an effective and professional service to our clients on strategically important projects, including:
- Work with our energy advisors in delivering to our clients
- Assisting with the day-to-day tasks involved in our energy projects
- Coordinating between members of various disciplines and departments within Arup
- Gaining exposure to the various aspects of the energy industry
Typical day to day tasks may include, but are not limited to:
- Project management assistance to project manager and project director to boost the development and delivery of projects
- Assist in bid development for future work opportunities
- Use of software packages such as PowerBI, MS Project, MS Excel, SharePoint, etc.
- Liaising with clients, suppliers and contractors, production of high-quality reports for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Is this role right for you?
We encourage our Consultants to demonstrate drive and motivation, a passion for the energy sector, and a desire to effectively deliver an excellent service to our clients. With a busy, diverse team, you will need to be flexible to respond to the needs of our clients.
We are looking for candidates who:
- Are working towards a Bachelor's degree (or higher level) with a prediction of 2:1 or higher.
- Have the ability to communicate clearly, proactively, and effectively in written and verbal communications.
- Have great reasoning and analytical skills.
- Are proactive when progressing uncertain/complex problems and iterate solutions.
- Have excellent planning and organisational skills.
- Have a strong foundation in mathematics for financial management
- Have good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint.
- May have some experience in coding and/or data analytics
