Based out of the Resources team in our Leeds office, our work in the fusion sector plays a vital role in supporting the development of net zero energyAs part of a multidisciplinary group, you'll contribute to a developing business area that will have significant real-world impact. Our work supports resilient energy systems through innovative design, digital delivery, and strategic planning. You'll gain hands-on experience in real projects, collaborate with experienced professionals, and develop the skills needed to tackle first of a kind challenges. 

 

The Opportunity  

On this 6–12-week Summer Internship you'll work alongside skilled professionals and from day one you will be working on real life meaningful projects - adding add value to clients, while exploring challenges with curiosity and creativity.  You'll have the opportunity to learn from others across a wide range of disciplines at Arup, developing your skills in multidisciplinary working. There will be regular learning sessions with our leadership team, potential opportunities for a site visit and visiting other Arup offices that will support your learning and development.    

Through this internship you will have direct interaction with the UK fusion energy sector, supporting clients who are pushing the boundaries of technology and knowledge in the field. There may also be opportunities to engage with and support Arup's fusion leadership team responsible for growing our fusion business, developing your understanding of strategy and business development. 

Typical tasks may include:  

  • Reviewing site information 
  • Developing an understanding of facility design for fusion deployment 
  • Drafting technical reports  
  • Working in multidisciplinary teams 
  • Meeting with client representatives 
  • Project management 

 

Is this role right for you?  

 We're looking for the following qualifications, attributes and skills:  

  • Strong A-levels (or equivalent) at Grade B or above  
  • Achieved / on track to achieve a 2.1 or above at undergraduate level  
  • Ideally studying for an MSc / PhD in fusion related science / engineering   
  • Demonstrate strong motivation and passion for a career in the fusion sector
