See it differently

You see the world through a unique lens and that’s exactly what we need. We embrace how you see things differently – it’s essential for creating a sustainable future.

Arup is a global consultancy with advisory and technical expertise across more than 150 disciplines. We guide, plan and design the future of the built environment. Globally, each year we recruit hundreds of graduates to help us see things differently and solve the most complex challenges facing our clients, climate and communities.

Our experience of places is driven by our ears as much as our eyes, which is why acoustics is fundamental to any successful building or environment. Arup is a leading acoustics, noise and vibration design and advisory practice.

Our team works across a wide range of acoustic environments, whether it's developing an incredible acoustic experience in concert halls or managing vibration inside a particle physics laboratory.

The Opportunity

On this 6–12-week Summer Internship, you would be part of a team working on some of the most exciting and challenging projects both in the UK and abroad. Typically, we work across a wide variety of markets including Performing Arts, Education, Healthcare, Commercial, Residential, Sport, Rail, Highways, Aviation and Energy.

Our successful applicants often experience the following:

  • The opportunity to gain a broad range of experience, including planning and feasibility studies; environmental and health impact assessments; building and infrastructure design; noise modelling; on-site measurements; as well as many other activities.
  • Undertaking site-based noise and vibration measurements as required for projects, including (but not limited to) environmental noise monitoring and building acoustics.
  • Desk-based acoustic studies using programmes such as Strutt (Arup's in-house acoustic Excel add-in), SoundPLAN, Odeon, etc.
  • Helping to develop a digital offering for acoustics, including developing online and in-person experiences to communicate project goals to clients and stakeholder.

  • A strong ability to communicate with a team and report writing.
  • Interest and skills in any of the following would also be of interest: Computational modelling; GIS and/or coding; Health effects of noise Sound systems; Sound recording; Signal processing.
