Arup is an independent firm of designers, planners, engineers, consultants and technical specialists offering a broad range of professional services. Through our work, we make a positive difference in the world. 

The successful candidate will join the Foresight, Research & Innovation team within Arup University. He/she will report to the Global Foresight Director and Global Research Manager. The intern will work closely with the other global research team members, Arup's regional research leaders, colleagues in other parts of Arup University, and the Arup researchers globally.

What is the role?

As an Industrial Trainee, you will be responsible for:

  • Support of the preparation of publications and bid applications
  • Assistance with the organisation of workshops
  • Co-design of materials and presentations required for events
  • Generation of content to the various digital platforms curated by the team
  • Monitoring how the sites are being used
  • Capturing research case studies and supporting the publication of the new corporate research strategy
  • Design of printed material such as posters, leaflets as well as presentations
  • Providing assistance with exhibitions, public events and talks

Does this sound like you?

Requirements and skills:

  • Competence in desktop and other forms of research, including picture research and an interest in Futures, horizon scanning and sustainability.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English with some writing experience. (Though not a requirement, proofreading skills would be advantageous.)
  • Strong Academic background and studying towards a degree in any discipline. 
  • Sound video, visual design and graphics skills and a thorough knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (including InDesign, Illustrator).
  • Experience of developing content for websites and of writing concise copy as well as a good knowledge of social networks such as Twitter, Facebook etc.
  • Experience in story telling and/or the communication of research outcomes, trends, insights and/or design concepts.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to multi-task.
  • Though not a requirement, video and WordPress website editing skills would be useful.
