About the role

Right now we're looking for Apprentice Technicians to join our Electrical Engineering teams in Whitehaven. From your first day, you'll join an unrivalled community of experts, where everyone is supported in their career path and encouraged to work towards an accredited qualification.

You'll help us to deliver effective and professional services for a range of varied and high-profile clients. While you'll have a great deal of responsibility from day one, we'll give you the chance to take on more as you progress and broaden your skills.

As an Apprentice Technician you'll work closely with a team of engineers. You will provide technical support as they carry out design work and project management services for the infrastructure and energy businesses. The team provides design services as part of an Alliance and therefore will also be involved in activities related to construction, installation, testing & commissioning of new & existing assets from electrical distribution networks, substations, industrial process buildings and more.

You'll support a variety of different work, including:

  • Production of engineering drawings and sketches, including the production of 3D models and other advanced digital engineering data sets.
  • Preparation of simple engineering calculations
  • Contributing to solutions for design challenges
  • Taking part in meetings, site visits, presentations and workshops
  • Helping with the administration of projects
  • Contribution to the development & implementation of Digital tools for engineering use purposes.

What we look for

We're looking for the following qualifications, attributes and skills:

  • A suitable Level 3 qualification(s) equivalent to 48 UCAS points such as BTEC level 3 Diploma in Engineering or Science or A-Levels including Science.
  • Grade B/6 or above in GCSE Maths
  • Confident working with numbers
  • The ability to produce neat and accurate technical drawings
  • Interest in using technology for design work, calculations and testing
  • Awareness of electrical engineering environment & industry
  • The ability to organise your own work and always be on time
  • Good communication skills
  • The ability to work as part of a team
  • Lots of enthusiasm for this learning and development opportunity

Additional information

Please be aware, due to the nature of the work in Whitehaven, successful applicants must be security clearable. You will be supported in obtaining the relevant clearance. 

You must be available to commence employment no later than Autumn 2021 in order to be considered for this role.
