Launch your career with Arup:

Arup is an independent firm of designers, planners, engineers, architects, consultants and technical specialists, working across every aspect of today's built environment. Together we help our clients solve their most complex challenges – turning exciting ideas into tangible reality as we strive to find a better way and shape a better world.

Overview of role:

As a global leader in acoustic consulting, Arup's experts design environments acoustically to promote health and wellbeing and minimise the unwanted effects of noise and vibration.

We create beautiful sound in concert halls around the world and control vibration in sensitive laboratory environments. We help reduce the impact of noise from airports, railways, highways and stadia, while making sure sound systems are heard with clarity in even the busiest transport hubs. Our international acoustic design team provides services in architectural, building, transport and environmental acoustics.

We help clients achieve their aspirations in acoustics by guiding projects from conception and planning through design, construction, testing and commissioning.

You will work as part of a team of specialist engineers and with wider multi-disciplinary project teams.  Tasks will include:

  • Measurement and analysis of noise and vibration
  • Calculation and modelling of acoustic characteristics
  • Design of acoustic solutions for the control or enhancement of sound or vibration
  • Writing reports and delivering drawings and sketches
  • Liaising with clients and teams of architects, engineers and designers
  • Contributing to auralisation demonstrations, including in Arup's state of the art SoundLab facilities
  • Visiting building and transportation sites

Your work will be guided by senior consultants and will form the basis for design decisions for building projects and environmental assessments for planning consultations. Work will also contribute to internal research on acoustic methods and development of new modelling or measurement techniques to keep Arup's position as a leader in the field.

You will have the opportunity to apply your knowledge across the widest range of acoustics, noise and vibration projects amongst experts in their field.  You will have opportunity to work alongside Arup's engineering and specialist teams to broaden you understanding of other aspects of the built environment and consulting in general. You will see the outcome of your work in completed buildings and projects and visit many fascinating places and organisations in the pursuit of creating exemplary acoustic environments.

For this opportunity, we are seeking the following qualifications, skills and attributes:
