A Future with purpose

At Arup we’re dedicated to sustainable development and to do socially useful work that has meaning. Our purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

We solve the world's most complex problems and deliver what seems impossible. We explore challenges with curiosity and creativity - using technology, imagination and rigour to deliver remarkable outcomes.

The Opportunity

Arup's Cities Planning & Design Team delivers an integrated approach and sustainable solutions to the design of cities and complex urban environments. We are a team of landscape architects, urban designers, architects, planners, economists and sustainability experts based in London and working on a variety of projects across the world. We are differentiated from our competitors by our ability to combine skills to solve particularly complex or unusual problems and help our clients to create an integrated vision with a full commitment to develop successful and sustainable urban places.

As Urban Designers, we work on a range of district, city and regional scale projects in the UK and overseas, moving between strategic and conceptual ideas to typology and streetscape detail.  We work in small, design-led project teams in collaboration with our multidisciplinary colleagues.

You will play a design role within the Urban Design Team and will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of exciting urban projects in the UK and overseas, including new towns and city regeneration strategies, university campuses and innovation districts, tourism and leisure destinations, mixed-use city centre masterplanning, sports and legacy masterplans, amongst others.

This role is based in London, and we will be considering UK based applications only.

Please note that we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role. Therefore, you must ensure that you are eligible to work permanently in the UK without our sponsorship.

Is this role right for you?

  • An undergraduate degree in Urban Design, Architecture or Urban Planning with an achieved or predicted grade of 2:1 or above
  • Excellent drawing and presentation skills, including 3D modelling and outstanding graphics
  • A keen interest in large scale urban projects and be able to present your work in this context
  • An awareness of the RIBA Work Stages and current UK Planning Policy
  • Programming skills to aid our digital transformation initiatives are a plus

Technical Skills:

  • Good CAD skills (AutoCAD) including 3D modelling (Rhinoceros)

  • Additional skills in GIS, Grasshopper, Lumion, advanced visualisation or sustainability qualifications are desirable

We are looking for people who are curious and ready to evolve how you think and work. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.
