The diverse nature of the work we do means that you will be working for a variety of clients, across a range of markets, including but not limited to - private individuals, corporations, financial institutions, Critical National Infrastructure, Energy and Transport sectors.  

Our work is informed by risk analysis that takes account of geo-political, technical, economic, policy, social and governance perspectives.


About the role

We have an opportunity for a Graduate Protective Security & Resilience Consultant to join our team of specialists based in our London office. The role will be to put into practice and develop your knowledge and skills in the context of security and resilience, working alongside our team of experienced operational and technical consultants on a diverse range of security and resilience-based projects. This includes using tools and models to generate and analyse data, review, assess and identify potential vulnerabilities and / or threats that could manifest as a catastrophic shock. 

The role will develop your strategic thinking so appropriate and proportionate mitigation measures and  processes, can be adapted or introduced to reduce likelihood and potential impacts of shocks, be they physical, financial, or reputational, and should they occur recover from them.

To assist in developing these skills, Arup has an unrivalled community of multidisciplinary experts, where you will be supported and mentored in your career path and encouraged to work towards gaining valuable industry experience and relevant professional qualifications


In this role your day-to-day tasks may include:

  • Gathering, processing, analysing and interpreting information from a wide variety of sources to advise our clients across operational security, incident management and resilience projects
  • Working across specialisms to gather expertise in solving security & resilience challenges
  • Developing operational security management, business continuity, incident response and resilience strategies / plans
  • Conducting comprehensive multi-hazard risk assessments
  • Horizon scanning and Scenario planning
  • Meeting clients and helping to them to understand their needs
  • Complex problem mapping
  • Arranging and participating in client and stakeholder workshops and presentations
  • Developing risk-based security solutions, business continuity programmes, or organisational & operational level resilience strategies.
  • Performing Business Impact Analyses (BIA) for clients
  • Assist in the design & delivery of training, exercise and validation programmes
  • Assessing the benefits of a variety of strategic options
  • Producing well written reports in clear English
  • Preparing high quality diagrams and presentations
  • Supporting the development of proposals for new commissions


What are we looking for?

We are looking for candidates with enthusiasm, curiosity, personal drive, some technical knowhow and an ability to communicate clearly and persuasively. If you can combine these skills with an understanding of (or willingness to learn about) the resilience, security and risk consulting sector and a desire to deliver excellent services for clients, we would like to hear from you.


We are looking for the following qualifications, attributes and skills:

  • A 2:1 or higher in a degree relating to Security Risk Management, Resilience, Business Continuity or Disaster Risk Management
  • A commitment to a sustainable and resilient future
  • A self-starter, interested in applying your skills across a broad range of tasks and projects, working in collaboration with many different specialists
  • Communicating complex scenarios and issues to non-specialist audiences – with particular reference to report writing and oral presentation
  • Strong IT competency
  • Experience in information analysis and problem solving
  • Collaborative, team player
  • An interest in human factors, continual learning and applying research
  • Good visualisation skills, ie ability to convey information in attractive, visual format
  • Ability to analyse and solve complex / complicated problems
  • Ability to combine understanding of business needs, practical multi-disciplinary solutions.
  • Experience in risk assessments, strategy development and/or operational planning.
  • The ability to listen.
