Interested In This Role?

For this opportunity, we welcome applications from individuals that are eligible to apply for or currently hold a Graduate visa. An offer of employment will be conditional upon your Graduate visa application being approved. Please note, further sponsorship on a Skilled Worker visa will be subject to business needs and performance. If you are successful in being appointed, this will be reviewed periodically throughout your employment.

Our hydrologists and hydraulic modellers deliver analysis and design to a range of public sector and private clients working on a variety of projects across the whole water cycle, including catchment science and management, dams and reservoirs engineering, flood and coastal risk management, natural flood management and river restoration, river and waterway engineering, water environmental management.

Graduates will be working in a multi-disciplinary team of hydrologists, hydraulic modellers and economists, within an even more multi-disciplinary office. Our team develops hydrological assessments that in turn inform environmental and flood risk models, undertaken in numerical hydraulic models. We use those models to develop designs including river restoration and reservoir spillways, flood alleviation and environmental improvement. Those same models are used by the team to make the economic case for these designs to be constructed. You would be surrounded by experts who care about the work, and about your training and career development.

While you'll have a great deal of responsibility from day one, we'll give you the chance to take on more as you progress and broaden your skills. To do this you would be:

  • Working with Arup colleagues in specialisms such as River Engineering, Flood Alleviation, Sustainability and Environmental Planning
  • Working with collaborators such as landscape architects, planners and environmental scientists
  • Meeting with clients, local authorities, and other stakeholders – including site visits
  • Carrying out assessment, analysis and design
  • Using specialist modelling and hydrological software such as Flood Modeller, Tuflow, Flood Estimation Handbook, GIS
  • Undertaking feasibility studies and preparing technical reports
  • Helping to win and manage commissions from clients
  • Managing your own time and deadlines to meet project commitments

Experience of rivers analysis or design projects would be beneficial

You will provide support to team members to deliver an effective and professional service to our clients. Due to the multi-disciplinary nature of our design teams, you will have the opportunity to work alongside experts.

We are looking for candidates with a Masters in Geography, Environmental Science, Civil or Environmental Engineering (or equivalent) at 2:1 or above, ideally with some degree of specialism towards catchment science. Bachelors at 2:1 or above will also be considered.

Preference for grade B or above in A-Level Mathematics, but not essential.
