At Arup we’re dedicated to sustainable development and to do socially useful work that has meaning. Our purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

We solve the world's most complex problems and deliver what seems impossible. We explore challenges with curiosity and creativity - using technology, imagination and rigour to deliver remarkable outcomes.

Our Technical Specialist Services Portfolio is growing rapidly, and we are delighted to be seeking highly motivated individuals to join our team of environmental physics and wind engineering specialistsThe team is all about combining the principles of fluid dynamics and heat transfer to design liveable, resilient cities, sustainable buildings and to solve a wide range of complex problems across all facets of the built environment. From your first day, you will join an unrivalled community of experts, where everyone is supported in their career path and encouraged to work towards a professional qualificationYou will help us to deliver effective and professional services for a range of varied and high-profile clients. While you will have a great deal of responsibility from day one, we will give you the chance to take on more as you progress and broaden your skills

The Opportunity

A large proportion of our work focusses on the control of indoor thermal environments, design of urban spaces to improve liveability and assessment of wind impacts on structures. However, we also use our core skills to support Arup in a diverse range of areas, such as the design of hydraulic structures, electromagnetic systems and offshore wind farms. We routinely deliver cross-disciplinary projects with other engineers and specialists in Arup; a broad understanding of how our work interacts and affects wider design and engineering considerations is key to our success.

Your role will be to undertake analysis and design on behalf of clients or in collaboration with other teams within Arup. You will use analytical and numerical methods such as CFD and dynamic thermal modelling as well as wind tunnel and other forms of testing to inform the design process. You will regularly interact with architects, developers and engineers on projects in diverse sectors including buildings, energy, industry and transport.

Is this role right for you?

For this opportunity, we are seeking the following qualifications, skills and attributes:

  • Masters or bachelor's level degree, ideally in engineering science, mechanical, civil, or aeronautical engineering (2:1/60% or higher or equivalent) but other degree courses with an emphasis on mathematics and modelling will also be considered.
  • A strong interest in fluid dynamics and how it impacts the built environment.
  • A strong interest in numerical, statistical and/or physical modelling.
  • Experience with coding languages, such as Python or MATLAB is an advantage.

We're looking for people who are curious and ready to evolve how you think and work.  Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas. At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. If you can share your knowledge and ideas and encourage others to do the same; whilst having a desire to deliver excellent services for clients – we'd like to hear from you.

You should be able to start this opportunity in September 2025.
