Interested In This Role?

At Arup, we are dedicated to shaping a better world. For more than 70 years, we have helped bring to life ground-breaking projects across the globe, from the Sydney Opera House to the design of the Electric Black Cab. Staff from across the breadth of our 16,000-person global team come together to devise solutions that benefit not just our clients, but also the world. We believe in continuous learning; providing a culture that is naturally curious and always stimulating.

Arup's Advanced Digital Engineering group comprises over 300 advanced engineering, digital, and project consultants, bringing together a seamless combination of digital and data-related capabilities with Arup's traditional engineering and design strengths. Within this group we develop tools to support engineers inside and outside of the firm with their simulation work.

We support Arup's longstanding commitment to shape a better world by providing the tools to enable us and our clients to tackle the most challenging engineering problems.

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity to join our rapidly growing team of engineering software developers working on the market-leading Oasys Suite of pre and post-processing software for the LS-DYNA solver. This software is widely used by engineers around the world, within Arup and in many other companies, to analyse complex problems such as vehicle crash tests and the performance of tall buildings during earthquakes. You can find out more about our software at www.oasys-software.com/dyna.

You will work in our London or Solihull office as part of a team of around 20 developers, with backgrounds in engineering, mathematics, physics, and computer science, who all share an enthusiasm for developing high quality engineering software. You will have the opportunity to work across the full range of development tasks: designing and coding new features for the software, maintaining existing features, and testing. You will also contribute to other related responsibilities such as day-to-day technical support to customers and the range of release tasks from quality assurance to developing new documentation.

You'll have the support you need to develop your skills and, as we broaden the application of our software into other industries, the project may provide the opportunity for the post-holder to identify and develop new tools, features or software products. There are also opportunities for client contact through regular meetings, delivering training courses and attending other events both in the UK and abroad.

About you

We're looking for applicants with a strong technical background, personal drive and curiosity. If you can combine these skills with a desire to deliver excellent products and services for clients, we'd like to hear from you.

We're looking for the following qualifications, attributes and skills:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or Computer Science (2.1 or above)
  • Desire to combine technical knowledge with software development
  • Strong background in mathematics
  • Experience of finite element analysis software is advantageous
  • Knowledge of C or Fortran is advantageous, but more important is an enthusiasm for coding and a willingness to learn

Arup offers

Arup offers extensive opportunities for your personal and career development and:

  • A competitive salary and settling in allowance
  • Profit share scheme
  • A comprehensive benefits package, including a flexible benefits fund and highly competitive pension
  • An interesting and varied workload
  • Technically challenging work that will stretch and develop your skills
  • A supportive and friendly team based in an excellent working environment
  • Mentorship and support towards professional accreditation and career development opportunities

The deadline for applications is Sunday 8th March 2020.

Our Graduate Welcome Week will take place in September 2020. Although we can be flexible on start dates we would hope that the successful candidate will join their peers for this event.

Please note that we are able to offer Tier 2 visa sponsorship for this role.

Shape your time with us
Our goal is to shape a better world. And to do that, we need to make Arup a great place to work for everyone. If we want to solve problems for people around the world, we must seek and attract the best people
from the widest talent pool and create an environment that supports and includes them. We aim to encourage a culture where people can be themselves and be valued for their contribution. We therefore welcome applications from diverse candidates. This includes people with disabilities so please discuss any adjustments that you may require throughout the selection and assessment process with your recruitment contact.

At Arup, you'll be a welcomed member of the team with opportunities to participate in cultural and social events with the local community (e.g. as a STEM ambassador) or by joining one of our staff networks for women, culture or LGBT+ people.  As a
firm with an increasingly agile workforce, we're open to flexible working arrangements where appropriate.
