Overview of role:

Arup has made sustainability and the urgent need to transform the energy system to zero carbon it's most important priority. Our work includes design and advice to offshore wind farm developers, advice for governments on decarbonisation strategies, managing innovation programmes for low carbon technologies, delivering design solutions for tomorrow's low carbon energy system and providing sustainable investment advice.

Over the next three years we will substantially grow our energy business to meet this challenge and so are looking to recruit across a wide range of skills and experience in all parts of the UK. Our global portfolio of work includes Offshore Wind, City Decarbonisation, Utility Networks, Nuclear and Hydrogen.  Our clients include governments, energy developers, energy generators, energy infrastructure and investment companies.

In this role, you'll will focus on work at early, advisory stages of offshore wind projects where a deep understanding of our client's objectives is critical to our success.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Working with our team of designers and consultants in delivering advisory services for internal and external clients across the offshore wind market.
  • Developing and applying to your work an expertise in a consultancy advisory skill set, which could include technology & innovation, regulation & policy, economics & commercial, planning & environmental, and project management.
  • Developing and applying to your work an appreciation of overarching energy legislation, policy, incentives and funding structures influencing the energy industry.
  • Research and analysis to identify and test of novel solutions to problems.
  • Preparation of high quality reports.

You'll help us to deliver effective and professional services for a range of varied and high-profile clients. While you'll have a great deal of responsibility from day one, we'll give you the chance to take on more as you progress and broaden your skills.


What are we looking for?

For this opportunity, we are seeking the following qualifications, skills and attributes:

  • A Master's degree in a renewable energy focussed discipline, or a Bachelor's degree (or higher level) STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) discipline
  • You should have a demonstrable motivation and enthusiasm for pursuing a career in the renewable energy sector underpinned through knowledge, and understanding our business and projects
  • An adaptable, enthusiastic and ambitious team player
  • In this role, you will interface with both internal and external stakeholders. Therefore, strong verbal and written capability and the ability to adapt your communication will be essential to your success.
  • You'll need to collaborate with teams in multiple disciplines. Therefore, you should feel comfortable in your ability to work with a diverse group of people with different priorities
  • This role will often require you to manage several project deliverables at once. We'll be looking for you to demonstrate how you've previously managed competing demands
  • Analytical thought process
  • Seek to improve existing ways of working, by finding efficiencies in processes
  • The aptitude to work on your own initiative and be proactive

You must be available to start this opportunity in September 2022.
