Interested In This Role?

For this opportunity, we welcome applications from individuals that are eligible to apply for / currently hold a Graduate visa. As appropriate, any offer we make will be conditional upon your visa application being approved.

Launch your career with Arup:

Arup is an independent firm of designers, planners, engineers, architects, consultants and technical specialists, working across every aspect of today's built environment. Together we help our clients solve their most complex challenges – turning exciting ideas into tangible reality as we strive to find a better way and shape a better world.

Arup is currently working as a JV member of the Infrastructure Strategic Alliance (ISA) in a series of long-term contracts to undertake the important task of cleaning up and decommissioning Europe's most complex nuclear site. The ISA augment the current Sellafield Ltd capability to deliver a programme management and project delivery service for all infrastructure assets, primarily targeted at utility assets. Arup in joint venture with Morgan Sindall are bringing best practice from other utilities and infrastructure programmes, with an emphasis on risk reduction and innovation in scheduling and technical processes.

Working collaboratively with major partners, Arup is supporting Sellafield Ltd to deliver greater quality more efficiently – while assuring industry leading safety performance.

Overview of role:

We are looking for passionate and highly talented individuals to train with us to become infrastructure designers and ambassadors of the built environment to help shape the world we live in.  Our current strategy to achieve this has simple yet strong focus areas; sustainability, people and digital.  To excel in these areas we will continue to invest significantly in the training of our early careers members, and also to maintain our reputation for looking after our people, through our continuing passionate efforts to improve our behaviours in equality, diversity and inclusion.

Our Civil Engineers can find themselves working in partnership with our experts in buildings, bridges, tunnels, geotechnics, environmental consulting and transport planning. Energy, collaboration, and effective communication is fundamental to bring these elements together as our Civil Engineering teams are often at the core of these disciplines acting as integrators or facilitators. Our teams also work closely with many external bodies to deliver the project, from clients and architects to statutory approval organisations.

The experience and skills of our teams allow us to provide strategic advice at all stages of a project, from first conception through master planning, detailed design, construction and even decommissioning.  Due to climate change and a strong focus on sustainability our advice is often critical to the success and programme of many projects, and we use our knowledge to influence collaborators to implement bespoke sustainable solutions.

Our core skills in the Civil Engineering teams typically include masterplan development, sustainable drainage designs, flood risk management, pavement designs, earthworks assessments, access road design and utilities coordination.

Our projects are varied, exciting and often high profile. As one of the world's leading building and infrastructure design consultancies, we offer clients the innovation and technical know-how to continually deliver their projects on schedule and on budget, but without compromise.

Right now, we're looking for graduates to join our team of bright professionals. From your first day, you'll join an unrivalled community of experts, where everyone is supported in their career path and encouraged to work towards professional qualification.

Your role in the ISA will be to work in our civil, infrastructure and structural team, in close collaboration with other electrical, mechanical and process design colleagues and with our alliance partners to deliver challenging civil and structural engineering designs to support the site infrastructure projects. You will benefit from early exposure to working on an operational site and with early contractor involvement (ECI) in all stages of  the project lifecycle from study to delivery.

We are looking for candidates with an appetite to develop their engineering, digital and management abilities whilst working on large multi-disciplinary projects from feasibility stage through to construction and beyond as we move into the asset care aspect of the built environment.

We are looking for digitally minded individuals who are keen to combine the above engineering principles, with a desire to automate our processes, manage data better, and help us drive the quality and efficiency of producing intelligent 3D models. This is a key focus area for the industry and Arup are leading a number of initiatives in this space.

You'll help us to deliver effective and professional services for a range of varied and high-profile clients. While you'll have a great deal of responsibility from day one, we'll give you the chance to take on more as you progress and broaden your skills. We seek people with a good understanding of CAD and Digital tools with experience of design projects.

What are we looking for?

For this opportunity, we are seeking the following qualifications, skills and attributes:

  • Ideally a Masters in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) at 2.1 or above, although a BEng at 2.1 or above will also be considered
  • Studying, or have studied, an ICE accredited course

  • Ability and experience in using AutoCAD or Bentley Microstation would be desirable
  • Some experience with coding languages would be advantageous
  • Sustainable thinking and/or an awareness of how we can contribute to social value would be attractive
  • Enthusiasm for a career in Civil Engineering, underpinned by a knowledge and understanding of our sector and work
  • An interest to work in an alliance, with ECI, and close coordination with an operational site
  • Have an analytical thought process
  • Seek to improve existing ways of working, by finding efficiencies in processes
  • The aptitude to work on your own initiative and be proactive

You must be available to start this opportunity in September 2022.
