Our resilience, security and risk practice has consistently been at the forefront of the field since it was formed in the mid-1990s. The practice brings together threat specialists, physical and electronic security engineers, operational security specialists and blast engineers in a unique multi-disciplinary environment, helping our clients manage malicious risk, natural hazards and operational reliability in each aspect of their businesses and operations.
Our world-leading blast engineering team has developed an enviable reputation for innovative, risk-based design to successfully develop the blast engineering design of some of the world's most complex buildings and structures including tall buildings, transport infrastructure, long-span bridges and stadia. Some of our recent projects include the Olympic Park venues for London 2012, Abu Dhabi International Airport, Singapore Sports Hub and the Gerald Desmond Bridge in California.
We bring together a talent for engineering with a sound knowledge of fluid theory and the theory of structural dynamics, allowing us to use first principles to understand the fundamental behaviour of structures under extreme loads and develop innovative design solutions.
About the role
Right now we're looking for Graduate Blast Engineers to join our team of bright professionals in our Manchester and London offices. From your first day, you'll join an unrivalled community of experts, where everyone is supported in their career path and encouraged to work towards a professional qualification.
You'll help us to deliver effective and professional services for a range of varied and high-profile clients. While you'll have a great deal of responsibility from day one, we'll give you the chance to take on more as you progress and broaden your skills.
Your role will be to prepare blast engineering analysis and design of structural and façade systems, working in coordination with the multi-disciplinary design team of architects, engineers, cost consultants and project managers to integrate our design solutions into the building design.
Working outside mandatory codes of practice in a risk-based framework, you will be responsible for developing the design basis as well as then preparing a design to meet these requirements. At the outset of a project, you will work with our threat specialists to assist our clients develop their design requirements, and will manage the client relationship throughout the project to ensure the client remains involved in the decision-making process about the level of blast performance they require, the risk they are prepared to accept and the design and cost impact of mitigating these risks.
As well as an exemplary standard of technical knowledge in structural engineering, you will require strong skills in written, verbal and sketch communication, excellent organisational skills and an understanding of multi-disciplinary design. You will be collaborative in your approach but able to work independently, and will gain a thorough understanding of the role of a blast engineer, structural and façade engineering design, first-principles design and risk-based design frameworks. At the same time you will work towards chartership through the firm's accredited graduate training scheme and will also be committed to research, contributing to internally- and externally-funded research projects and writing conference papers and journal articles.
