About the role

Right now we’re looking for undergraduate civil engineers to join our team of bright professionals at our Solihull office. From your first day, you’ll join an unrivalled community of experts, where everyone is supported in their work and encouraged to develop their skills.

You’ll help us to deliver effective and professional services for a range of varied and high-profile clients. While you’ll have responsibility from day one, we’ll give you the chance to broaden your skills.

Your placement will be based in one of the following teams:

  • Bridges
  • Geotechnics
  • Highways
  • Rail
  • Site Development

Typical responsibilities could include: 

  • Data analysis and preparation
  • Concept to detailed design including design calculations
  • Technical drawings including CAD and 3D modelling
  • Technical report writing
  • Project and design administration
  • Supporting internal clients such as other sectors within Arup

You will be working on live projects for the majority of your placement, while learning from our highly experienced team.

What we look for

We’re looking for undergraduates with curiosity, personal drive and the ability to work as part of a team. If you can combine these skills with an understanding of (or willingness to learn about) the Infrastructure sector and a desire to deliver excellent services for clients, we’d like to hear from you.

We’re looking for the following qualifications, skills and behaviours:

 Qualifications

  • Enrolled on an ICE accredited Civil Engineering degree course, ideally at MEng level
  • On track to achieve a 2.1 in your degree, as demonstrated by your module results to date
  • Preference for grade B or above in A-Level (or equivalent) Mathematics

 Skills

  • Modules in highways, rail, bridges, geotechnics or transport are an advantage
  • Possess a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • An understanding of CAD is an advantage
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong numerical skills
  • The ability to work as part of a team
