A Future with purpose

At Arup we’re dedicated to sustainable development and to do socially useful work that has meaning. Our purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

We solve the world's most complex problems and deliver what seems impossible. We explore challenges with curiosity and creativity - using technology, imagination and rigour to deliver remarkable outcomes.

The Opportunity

Our apprenticeships allow you to study for industry-recognised qualifications whilst earning a competitive salary. As an apprentice, you will study with a training provider, such as a university, and combine this experience with real responsibilities in the workplace. Your study pattern will be day release, or via distance learning, depending on the course that you enrol on. A dedicated mentor will guide you through your personal and professional development. Level 7 Apprenticeships have a typical duration of four years, during which you will attain both a professional and academic qualification to further your career. Our apprentices are employed on a permanent basis, so you'll continue to progress with Arup once you've completed your course.

We are looking for a Building Services Apprentice to join our Building Information Modelling (BIM) team in our Edinburgh office. Building Services engineering encapsulates systems such as heating, ventilation, lighting, power, water services, life-safety systems and data communications. BIM enables us to design and visualise buildings collaboratively using 3D models and information to aid in the delivery of our projects.

You will work on a variety of projects across different sectors, including education, commercial, sports, health and industry. This has recently included projects such as the V&A Dundee, the Queensferry Crossing and the Glasgow University Adam Smith Building.

As an apprentice, you will be working with and supported by other apprentices and BIM technicians using digital tools to create intelligent 3D models and drawings to communicate the Arup design. You will be working towards becoming a Building Services BIM Technician responsible for 3D model and drawing production, information management and digital collaboration.

As part of your apprenticeship, your academic studies will lead to a HNC in Building Services Engineering delivered at a local university. In parallel to the academic side, the on-the-job learning will lead to and industry recognised EngTech professional qualification.

While the course advertised as part of this vacancy represents a broad overview of Building Services and our work at Arup, we are also open to applications from candidates wishing to study a more specialist element of Building Services or Construction, such as Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or Construction Management. We'd be happy to discuss these aspirations with you at interview if you have identified a course or training provider which represents your interests and aligns with our values.

Is this role right for you?

We're looking for apprentices who are curious and ready to evolve how they think and work.   Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas. At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. If you can share your knowledge and ideas and encourage others to do the same; whilst having a desire to deliver excellent services for clients – we'd like to hear from you.
