Our Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeships
Our apprenticeships allow you to study for industry-recognised qualifications whilst earning a competitive salary. As an apprentice, you will study with a training provider, such as a college, and combine this experience with real responsibilities in the workplace. Your study pattern could be day or block release, or via distance learning, depending on the course that you enrol on. A dedicated mentor will guide you through your personal and professional development. Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeships have a typical duration of two to three years, during which you will attain both a professional and academic qualification to further your career. Our apprentices are employed on a permanent basis, so you'll continue to progress with Arup once you've completed your course.
The Opportunity
Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeships are available in Sheffield in the following areas:
Civil Engineering Technician
You'll be part of the civil engineering team, working with experienced professionals, graduates and other apprentices both within the team and across other teams/disciples, giving you the opportunity to learn from a wide variety of people and gain knowledge in multiple areas. You'll work on a wide range of multidisciplinary projects at various stages, from master planning, drainage and SuDS, earthworks, pavements and site wide utilities strategies.
As a Civil Engineering Apprentice you roll will involve (but not limited to) the following types of activities:
- You'll primarily use 2D & 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Building Information Modelling (BIM) packages such as AutoCAD Civil 3D and Bently Microstation to create high quality technical models and drawings suitable for construction.
- Working closely with members of the design team to help produce civil engineering designs and their relative outputs such as 3D models, drawings, calculations, specifications, reports and presentations
- Co-ordinating with other disciplines such as architects, surveyors and contractors both internal and external
- Apply appropriate civil engineering principles, techniques and methods, including mathematical, scientific and technical know-how to support the delivery of civil engineering projects
Building Services Engineering
We're currently looking for a MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Public Health) BIM apprentice technician to join our Yorkshire based buildings team which consists of the Leeds and Sheffield offices. You would work alongside and be taught by industry experts within the BIM and engineering design teams whilst working on projects in the following sectors: airports, data centres, education, healthcare, hospitality, residential, commercial, transport, sports & leisure.
A Building Services Engineering technician collaborates with engineers and other construction professionals in the development of cost-effective technical and sustainable design solutions. Duties of a Building Services Engineering technician will include the production of three-dimensional models, calculations, specifications, reports, and drawings. Your work will typically include designing systems such as renewable technologies, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, drainage, lighting, power, controls using various digital technologies.
You will complete an online portfolio of evidence which will be supervised by Arup mentors. Completion of the apprenticeship standard will be confirmed following the satisfactory conclusion of an End Point Assessment which is reviewed and awarded by a professional body.

Eligibility for apprenticeship funding requires candidates to have the right to work in the UK and continuous residency in the UK since at least September 2022. Candidates holding a visa must ensure it remains valid for the full duration of the apprenticeship, which may extend up to 5 years.
