See it differently

You see the world through a unique lens and that’s exactly what we need. We embrace how you see things differently – it’s essential for creating a sustainable future.

Arup is a global consultancy with advisory and technical expertise across more than 150 disciplines. We guide, plan and design the future of the built environment. Globally, each year we recruit hundreds of graduates to help us see things differently and solve the most complex challenges facing our clients, climate and communities.

Our Level 4 Advanced Apprenticeships

Our apprenticeships allow you to study for industry-recognised qualifications whilst earning a competitive salary. As an apprentice, you will study with a training provider, such as a college, and combine this experience with real responsibilities in the workplace. Your study pattern could be day or block release, or via distance learning, depending on the course that you enrol on. A dedicated mentor will guide you through your personal and professional development. Level 4 Advanced Apprenticeships have a typical duration of two to three years, during which you will attain both a professional and academic qualification to further your career. Our apprentices are employed on a permanent basis, so you'll continue to progress with Arup once you've completed your course.

The Opportunity

We're looking for Apprentice Technicians to join our teams in Glasgow. From your first day you'll join a community of professionals, where everyone is supported in their career path and encouraged to work towards an accredited qualification.

You'll support a team including engineers and other professionals to assess, design and supervise civil engineering works. You'll work on a wide range of projects – from dams to roads, drainage, and earthworks. Projects and designs will come in all shapes and sizes, and could involve Hydro power, onshore transmission projects, university campus, highways and more. You'll help us to deliver effective and professional services for a range of varied and high-profile clients such as SSE, Scottish Power, Sellafield and many others. As part of your apprenticeship, you'll study towards a Level 4 qualification in Civil Engineering with one of our local partner colleges.

While you'll have a degree of responsibility from day one, we'll give you the opportunity to take on more responsibility as you progress and broaden your skills.

You will support a variety of different work, including:

  • Production of engineering drawings and sketches, including 3D or 2D computer drawings
  • Production of Building Information Models (BIM)
  • Preparation of basic engineering calculations
  • Contributing to solutions for design challenges
  • Taking part in design meetings, site visits, presentations and workshops
  • Helping with the administration of projects
